dusita

dusita thai cuisine restaurant is a new thai restaurant that i decided to try out this last friday. it’s across the street from my favorite korean restaurant, korean house, in santa clara so it was hard for me to be in such close proximity to it and not go there. but i did have a craving for thai food, so i decided to try it out.

i was pleasantly surprised at the food served here. my favorite curry, panang curry, was actually quite good…better than my favorite thai place, krung thai. the pad thai was only ok, but the fish dish we had as well as the angry pork dish we had was also quite good. i’d definitely like to go there again some time.

music questions and answers

i was just looking over my fifty favorite foods last night and i was getting really hungry. this morning commenter ann asked me a few music questions so i thought i’d answer the friday music three:

1) The CD you last bought?
i’m not positive about this, but i think the last CD i bought was Dido’s Life for Rent. heh…it’s been a while.

2) What was the last song you listened to before reading this message?
i think it was howie day’s collide.

3) Write down 5 songs you often listen to or that mean a lot.

  • r kelly’s ignition remix – this is sort of a recent one. i don’t know why i listen to it so much, it’s got a catchy tune and it just makes me happy.
  • elvis costello’s Alison – i am a big fan of elvis costello. i didn’t discover him until recently, but this song seems to capture his wistful spirit.
  • dido’s life for rent – sort of describes my life, i guess. i think it just gives me some comfort that other people are in the same situation as i am, but i do know that there’s better things to come.
  • bangles’ eternal flame – this is also a real recent listen for me….i mean, i heard it back in the 80s, but there was this comic on comedy central that did this bit with the song and it brought back a flood of memories from a more innocent time. i guess i like the song because it does bring me back to those days.
  • elton john and leonard cohen’s duet born to lose – whenever i am sad, i listen to this song. it’s just so depressing and painful that it oddly gives me comfort because i know then that my problems just aren’t so bad.
  • dirty sponge

at work i always have this dilemma in our kitchen. while i was working on the ramen project, i needed to wash a bowl. the problem with our kitchen is that there is a sponge there to do such a task, but the sponge is disgusting and gross. it smells bad, it looks bad, and who would really want to use it in their right mind? so the problem is that there were no clean bowls and all i had left was this ramen that was to be eaten.

so i used the dirty sponge to first clean the bowl and then i ran the bowl through another cleaning process with my fingers to clean the bowl from the sponge. *sigh* lunch should not be this complicated.

    more cookies

i don’t know why i’ve been baking so many cookies lately, but i’ve been baking them by the dozens. i think i made something like 6 dozen cookies last night. i made a double batch. they seem to always disappear so quickly, i don’t know why, but they just fade so fast, so i thought that a double batch was in order. oddly enough when i doubled the recipe, the dough seemed too watery so i had to add some more flour to get it to the consistency that i expected. very strange, i thought.

i’m going to make dinner tonight. i’ve been craving a good dinner at home and i think that i’ll have that chance today to do it.

    appendicitis

my brother was admitted to the hospital earlier this week due to abdominal pains that he had felt. it turns out that he had appendicitis and had to have an emergency operation. when they operated, they had found that his appendix had burst. it was supposed to be a fairly routine operation, but it appeared that his recovery was not so routine. his white blood cell count had skyrocketed and there was fear that there was some infection.

when i first visited him earlier this week he was too weak to stay awake for very long and he looked very frail. i went to visit him earlier this morning and the color had returned to his face and he was able to carry conversation quite well. he is being discharged right now.

despite however much my brother and sister bicker and fight, my sister has been in constant touch with him while he was in the hospital and has done everything she can to keep tabs on him and make sure he is doing well.

you know, it’s easy to take family for granted. i mean, they are always there when you need them and you never really suspect that anything would ever change that. i’m glad that my brother appears to be getting better and i hope for a speedy recovery for him.

    cuts

it’s no secret that UPN has really suffered in the network wars and they haven’t really produced any great hits recently, with the exception of VERONICA MARS, which if you haven’t seen…you just haven’t seen good television.

but i digress, yesterday debuted the pilot of cuts starring shannon elizabeth. you would think that a movie star going from the big screen to the boob tube would accept a role in a great tv show, but this was truly disappointing. the only thing that this episode proved to me was that shannon elizabeth is still hot.

aside from that, it’s been some bad cheesy lines with dull, tired humor. i want to say that i want this show to get better, but it’s corny, lame, and most of all boring.

oh well, i guess that’s one show i can cross off my list of shows to watch.

    sunday

yesterday, a bunch of us got together and celebrated greg’s “13th” birthday. i think he’s actually 29, but he’s just in denial of his age. some drinks were had, lots of food was eaten, and we had good fun.

we saw the usual suspects there and then some people who i haven’t seen in a long, long while. so that was pretty cool.

volleyball resumed on sunday and it was a lot of fun. my team isn’t the most winningest team, but we had some really close games and i thought we had a lot of fun.
