today, i cut my toenails on my second toes for the first time in months. why? because they have FINALLY grown back from the time that they fell off after the crazy hike up halfdome. i missed them.
but it was nice not having to worry about clipping a toe.
i participated in a volleyball clinic today. the clinic went over the basics, passing, setting, serving, and hitting. surprisingly, i got the most coaching from serving, which i thought was one of the stronger aspects of my game. i guess it was because the drills we were doing for serving felt the least comfortable for me.
the setting drills and coaching was very helpful, i’m hoping that i’ll be able to apply some of these new techniques in my game. i had a lot of fun with the open gym play afterwards. it was very different from the play that i’m usually used to, the overall skill level was pretty good. it was surprising to see so many good players at this clinic going over the basics. i guess brushing up on the basics can never get old.
there were quite a few stanford coaches or stanford players who were helping us out with our form. it was overall pretty cool. i think my body isn’t able to take this kind of punishment for long though, and i’m going to rest up for the rest of this weekend. there are two playoff matches next week for me!
oh yeah, my thursday night team made playoffs! pretty cool. i can’t wait to play.
i forgot to blog about this….wait, did i use blog as a verb? *sigh* i am a blogger now.
anyway, i was listening to the local radio station and there was a big discussion about one of the people who work there and how he had lied about moving out of his place. so for nearly a year, he would lie about the commute that he had to do and he would lie to his co-workers about where he lived.
all of his co-workers were pretty hurt when they had found out the truth. some of them thought that they were close friends with this co-worker and information like this was not something that you had to hide. the liar in question felt he had done nothing wrong. he didn’t feel that withholding this information, or lying about it was morally wrong. and that’s where the big argument came about.
i don’t understand why he feels that it was a big deal to withhold this information, and i don’t understand why he feels that lying about something so basic is not morally wrong. it is interesting to see how different people can see a situation in completely different ways.
weird. as configurable as pMachine is, you’d think that it’d have an option to let you make the comments box pop up instead of refreshing to a whole new page. i poked around the code and it doesn’t look like this was a consideration. so i think i’ve got it working now so it’ll pop open a pretty box and ask you to add your comments there instead of navigating you away from the page. i never really understood that.
pMachine has the more function as well, but i don’t get it. i don’t see the practicality of the more page…why split your entry onto other pages…i’ve always found it kind of irritating to have to click on something that i would have already wanted to read anyway.
pMachine does not appear to support pagination of the main index page. i’m not sure if this is a good or bad thing yet.
it’s been a few days since i wrote the integrated pMachine blogroll, yet i haven’t done anything with it yet because i’m too lazy to input all the URLs in my list of links. lazy, lazy me.
all day today i’ve been working on something that i thought i would have done WAY, WAY earlier. i thought i was close to the end, i thought i could see the light. and every time i felt like i was getting closer….BOOM. another stumbling block.
but, ok, it’s no big deal. i see why i messed up. i can fix the bugs in my code. yes, all will be right.
and then another round of testing.
and then another round of hurt.
what i thought would be done by 11AM today, i think i have finally finished now. 4 hours later. grrrrr. i’m afraid to do this last round of testing, but it has to be done. i know it’s friday, but it sure doesn’t feel like a friday.
these are pretty yummy. every thursday my office has this thing called “nosh thursdays”. during this thursday we get bagels and other such snacks….thus the whole apple-eating incident yesterday. but one of the snacks they had were these rold gold pretzels and it was surprisingly good. part wheat, part honey, all pretzely goodness.
i think i may have to go grab a bag on the way home.
her new album, afterglow, is pretty cool. very classic sarah mclachlan, i think and i find the album rather soothing. my only complaint is that the whole album is rather short. the album itself is strongly thematic and if you don’t pay too much attention it can all sound like one long song.
but i like it and it’s in heavy rotation with the rest of the music that i listen to regularly.
there is the old addage, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.”
though the basic idea behind this seems to be sound, i’ll have you know that i have a terribly throbbing headache right now. this, coincidentally, happened right after i ate an apple.
for those that know me, they know that i don’t like eating most fruits…so the idea of me eating an apple is probably quite shocking. but let’s believe for a moment that i would do such a thing and concentrate on what happened next.
i have a terrible headache that not even advil has been able to quell.
i didn’t get lunch today. why? the power was out at work…well, every building in the block (even next door), EXCEPT ours didn’t have power. so i could still work. grrr…
so for lunch i went walking around to look for something to eat.
nations: nope…there’s a sign that says they’re closed for the power outage.
clancy’s: people were sitting around eating chips and salsa and drinking water in the dark waiting for the power to come back.
ginza: lots of people were drinking luke-warm tea and waiting for the power to go back on…i think they were trying to get the sushi out as quickly as possible…no refrigeration, you know? i wonder if restaurants have some kind of health code procedure when the power goes out like that. hmmmmm.
