i’m sitting here on a saturday morning finally with a moment to think. this last week has been so busy that i haven’t had much of a chance to do anything. this last week i attended the mysql users conference in santa clara. it was actually pretty interesting and i can’t wait to try out some of the things that i learned there.
i got keys to the new apartment earlier this week and i’ve been trying to prepare for the move, but it’s been slow going. for the last few weeks i’ve been slowly packing up the apartment for the big move. this weekend is the last weekend i have to move into my new place. i hired chinese movers to help me out with this big task. with all of the horror stories that i had heard of about bandit movers and hijacking my stuff, i was a little worried about how the move would go. it turned out that the movers were really nice and good and i had everything moved out of my old place and into the new place in record time.
so here i am now, at the new place, much more central to…well, pretty much everything else now. i have boxes surrounding me and the first order of business was to get the internet access working…and it is, sort of. i have a broken jack in the unit, so i need to get that fixed before things are finally done. but i can still browse the web…slowly.
i have the TV set up and i’m just getting ready to start lining all the shelves and start packing away all of the things that can go into the shelves. it looks like there’s still quite a bit of work to do. i think that i still have some stuff left at the old apartment so i need to go over there and start unpacking the rest of that out. looks like it’s going to be a long weekend.
in response to jen’s latest blog, i just wanted to clarify that she sold diana AND my birthday gift to her.
to make things worse, she’s now blaming me for telling her friend that the gift that she and i had given her is now being sold away. she’s blaming me because i had found out that she was hiding this truth from us.
so in response to jen’s claim that i’m a dumb butt, i’m gonna respond in kind and say that she is a loser.
i just had the best indian buffet ever. i was on the way to the bank today to get a money order and i spotted an indian restaurant. i usually don’t like to eat at sit down places for lunch by myself, but i haven’t had indian food for a while so i decided that i’d suck it up and eat by myself there.
i’m glad i did because it was the best indian buffet i’ve ever had. i don’t know if it is because i haven’t eaten indian food in a while, but it was amazing. i think that i’ll go there again soon.

i should avoid hot and cold foods and only eat room temperature foods so as to not aggravate my exposed nerve.
i was so bummed out that i have to get a root canal that i made steak and bought klondike bars. a steak and ice cream should cure all of my blues away…too bad the pain is still there.
i cracked a tooth yesterday and i went to the dentist today. i was able to schedule an emergency visit to see what was wrong and it was worse than i had expected. i’ve had pain ever since i cracked the tooth, so i knew it was bad.
but it’s real bad. it turns out that one of my fillings is pretty old and i’ve been told that over the years the fillings (because they are made out of some kind of metal) will expand and contract with heat or cold temperatures. over time this will cause the filling to lose its seal and worse yet it can cause microfractures in the tooth walls if the filling is particularly large (as was the case for me).
so finally the tooth gave way and it revealed a pretty bad cavity. the nerve is exposed and it hurts to drink hot or cold fluids…and it just hurts in general now. so i have to get a root canal. ugh. it’s due later this week and i’m drugging myself to deal with the pain for now.
i wonder what cavemen did when they had toothaches.
this was probably one of the busiest weekends i’ve had in a long while. it started saturday morning with a memorial service for a friend’s baby that had passed away. it was an emotional service, and though i had never met kaden, i was still overcome with an incredible sense of loss. i cannot imagine how the parents must feel.
after that, i met up with christi, dave, and joanne. joanne was visiting for the weekend so we had lunch with them and did a little shopping. i haven’t gone shopping in a while, but didn’t pick up anything.
i ran home after that and finally did my taxes. it didn’t take very long, but it was still quite a process. after finally finishing that up, christi and i went to dinner and then headed over to ben and sonya’s for poker night. i didn’t feel like playing cards so i watched mostly and then we went home.
sunday was another long day which started with the easter service. after that we had lunch and visited christi’s grandmother. we then headed off to meet thanh and tung for dinner in hayward. all in all the weekend was packed.
i’m still trying to recover from it. this weekend is supposed to be the volleyball tournament, but the weather isn’t looking good. i hope that they cancel it if conditions aren’t ideal. i would hate to play in the rain/soggy ground.
i don’t know what it is, but i’ve really gotten into freeware games lately. they amuse me for a few days and then i move on…sort of like non-freeware games.
the latest craze is the battle for wesnoth. it took me a little while to get into it, but it’s a lot of fun now. i suck at the game, but it still amuses me.
check it out if you like turn-based, hex-grid strategy games.
so now that i’ve committed to moving out by the end of this month and the reality of the situation is slowly sinking in, i am starting to realize how much i have to do. i think that i will probably have to start getting a good chunk of that done soon.
i tried to take some of the bigger things that i don’t need, but don’t want to throw away back to my parent’s place, but it’s slow going. i better speed up!
i’ve always been a better than ezra fan, but i totally missed the boat when it came to their before the robots album. i’m giving it a listen right now and i really like it.
it’s been a while since i’ve listened to music at work. i think that it has really helped my productivity. i’ve gotten a good chunk of work done today.
now the only thing i need to do is start working on my taxes. eeek, it’s already the 13th. i guess i’ll do it after vball tonight. my ankle’s been giving me some problems, so i think that i may take it easy tonight.
i had lunch with my vball captain, john today. we went to maru ichi in milpitas. it was kind of nice to hang out with someone at lunch. i think that i’m going to have to find some more people to eat lunch with. i even got pearl tea after lunch. mmmm, my day is looking good.
i went to atlanta a few months ago and i haven’t been able to post pictures due to web servers issues for a while now. but finally, i’ve gotten off my butt and written an image gallery. there’s still quite a bit of work to do, but it’s a start.
