gotta love dodge

now, i am not a big fan of dodge cars and trucks. but you gotta give the advertising execs props for having the courage to sponsor the LINGERIE BOWL, a pay-per-view event during the halftime of the super bowl where 14 models will be playing football in their lingerie.

tacky? maybe. offensive? possibly. entertaining? you betcha!

seriously, those guys at dodge crack me up. if you thought last year’s playmate fear factor was bad…

LCD order

dell has these crazy deals all the time. it sort of makes me wonder why anyone would try and build a machine themselves. anyway, dell currently has this insane deal on their 20″ LCD. i saw the deal on the 3rd and so i ordered it immediately. and then a few days after i ordered it, another deal came up…it was the same price, but a newer model! i was so sad. i was upset that i had gotten the older model only a few days before the newer model’s deal came out. i thought for sure that i wouldn’t be able to cancel the order and reorder it.

it turns out that there was a delay in the shipping of my order and so after jumping through quite a few hoops i was able to cancel my old order and get the new LCD for the same price. ahhh, happy days are here again. $800 for a 20″ LCD…you can’t really ask for more than that, can you?

definitely…must…stop…spending…

oh man…

it’s raining now…and i left my umbrella in the car.

i hope that by the time i have to go back to the car it will have stopped raining…but i don’ t think that that will be the case. looks like i’m going to get wet tonight.

i had a salad for lunch. i really do want to try and eat a little bit more healthy. i haven’t been eating very healthy lately. there was a discussion about various types of diets today, but i think that the most beneficial one is a balanced diet…not one of these crazy crash course diets. now, if only i could cut out all the crap in my diet…

atkins and TGIF?

i heard on NPR today that the atkins foundation and TGIF have formed a partnership where the atkins foundation is licensing their name to new menu items on TGIF’s menu. TGIF says that by targetting atkins’ dieters they will reach a new demographic.

this all sounds great and all…except what about the uninformed patron who doesn’t know what the atkins diet is all about? what if they just see these new high protein items and the word diet and think, “wow this is too good to be true!” and they eat these menu items thinking that they are eating “healthy”.

great marketing, though…but i think that in the end, it’ll actually be bad for people.

but then again, no one REALLY goes to TGIF’s when they are dieting, i suppose.

stupid, but funny

every time around this year i always laugh whenever i hear the expression “christmas carol”. why? for whatever reason, i’m reminded of something that carol wrote a long, long time ago. she was saying how one of her new year resolutions was going to be to stop being so critical of people. she said she wanted to stop being “critical carol.” it’s funny because whenever i hear “christmas carol” i now envision the new carol wearing some kind of christmas costume singing songs to everyone.

stupid, i know…but funny nonetheless.

toenails

today, i cut my toenails on my second toes for the first time in months. why? because they have FINALLY grown back from the time that they fell off after the crazy hike up halfdome. i missed them.

but it was nice not having to worry about clipping a toe.

volleyball clinic

i participated in a volleyball clinic today. the clinic went over the basics, passing, setting, serving, and hitting. surprisingly, i got the most coaching from serving, which i thought was one of the stronger aspects of my game. i guess it was because the drills we were doing for serving felt the least comfortable for me.

the setting drills and coaching was very helpful, i’m hoping that i’ll be able to apply some of these new techniques in my game. i had a lot of fun with the open gym play afterwards. it was very different from the play that i’m usually used to, the overall skill level was pretty good. it was surprising to see so many good players at this clinic going over the basics. i guess brushing up on the basics can never get old.

there were quite a few stanford coaches or stanford players who were helping us out with our form. it was overall pretty cool. i think my body isn’t able to take this kind of punishment for long though, and i’m going to rest up for the rest of this weekend. there are two playoff matches next week for me!

oh yeah, my thursday night team made playoffs! pretty cool. i can’t wait to play.

hooman

i forgot to blog about this….wait, did i use blog as a verb? *sigh* i am a blogger now.

anyway, i was listening to the local radio station and there was a big discussion about one of the people who work there and how he had lied about moving out of his place. so for nearly a year, he would lie about the commute that he had to do and he would lie to his co-workers about where he lived.

all of his co-workers were pretty hurt when they had found out the truth. some of them thought that they were close friends with this co-worker and information like this was not something that you had to hide. the liar in question felt he had done nothing wrong. he didn’t feel that withholding this information, or lying about it was morally wrong. and that’s where the big argument came about.

i don’t understand why he feels that it was a big deal to withhold this information, and i don’t understand why he feels that lying about something so basic is not morally wrong. it is interesting to see how different people can see a situation in completely different ways.

sarah mclachlan

her new album, afterglow, is pretty cool. very classic sarah mclachlan, i think and i find the album rather soothing. my only complaint is that the whole album is rather short. the album itself is strongly thematic and if you don’t pay too much attention it can all sound like one long song.

but i like it and it’s in heavy rotation with the rest of the music that i listen to regularly.

no lunch

i didn’t get lunch today. why? the power was out at work…well, every building in the block (even next door), EXCEPT ours didn’t have power. so i could still work. grrr…

so for lunch i went walking around to look for something to eat.

nations: nope…there’s a sign that says they’re closed for the power outage.

clancy’s: people were sitting around eating chips and salsa and drinking water in the dark waiting for the power to come back.

ginza: lots of people were drinking luke-warm tea and waiting for the power to go back on…i think they were trying to get the sushi out as quickly as possible…no refrigeration, you know? i wonder if restaurants have some kind of health code procedure when the power goes out like that. hmmmmm.
