haynesworth’s punishment

for those who haven’t heard, albert haynesworth, a defensive tackle for the titans stomped on the head of andre gurode with his cleat, tearing his head open requiring him to get 30 stitches during a game last week.

during a game…a player intentionally stomped on another player’s face who was on the ground with his cleats. the NFL has finally ruled the longest punishment it has ever imposed, a five game suspension for haynesworth. he was immediately ejected out of the game after attacking gurode.

though it is the longest suspension ever given to an NFL player, i don’t feel that a 5 game suspension is enough. that’s just absurd. i hope gurode presses charges for assault and i hope that haynesworth is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

it doesn’t matter what you say after the fact, sure he’s apologized. sure he is regretful and takes full responsibility, but you do not attack another player on the field in a game. that’s just wrong.

  1. I agree…it should have been way longer. It sends a terrible message to kids watching the game. As far as I’m concerned, it was a criminal act and should be punished as such. Of course he apologized, there were 100 cameras showing exactly what he did.

  2. 5 games suspension…that’s it?!! That’s like assault with a deadly weapon. He should have been arrested. A game suspension is like slap on the wrist…the other guy could have been killed. Sport bureaucracy makes me sick…it reminded me of when Mike Tyson chewed his opponent’s ear off.

  3. I think a lot of our sports celebrities have lost touch with reality. They’re out there on their high horse because they’re paid millions. But really, you’re not TRULY contributing to society! Nobel Prize winners only get $1 mil, and our nation’s best risking their lives for our country out there in Hell’s Land, Middle East, are paid like $50K a year or less. And these athletes feel a sense of entitlement and of being higher than the law and normal decent human society conduct for playing a GAME?! I also think this didn’t get the publicity it deserved, he should’ve been shamed more publicly. Give ’em some perspective.

  4. surely there will be some charges. plus there should be some criminal charges…that is ridiculous.

  5. it’s like those basektball player idiots a couple years ago at an NBA game…. brawling in the stands… was it detroit ? (figures)
