need… haircut… bad…

i think my life is all about inertia.

whenever it starts to get cold i think that i tend to get lazy. i can’t help it. it’s cold outside and i don’t want to go out if i don’t absolutely have to. the problem with that last statement is that the condition “if i don’t absolutely have to” is very open to interpretation.

do i absolutely have to take the garbage out today?

do i absolutely have to get a haircut?

do i absolutely have to buy new shoes?

well, the answers to some of these questions are answered for me by external forces. my roommate is currently traveling so my tolerance for a mess in the apartment is greatly increased.

though my hair is unmanageably long now and i fear that there is the beginnings of a mullet forming on my once short and spiky head, i just haven’t had the opportunity to go out and get a haircut…well, i lie, i’ve had plenty of opportunity, but i haven’t done anything about it. and there’s no one really telling me that i need to get a haircut, really…

and shoes? well, it’s raining now and i think there’s a crack in my shoes which conveniently lets all of the rain into my shoe, so…it would seem, that yes, i do need to get shoes now. perhaps it is already too late, but there is nothing like the constant reminder of cold, wet feet in the office to motivate you to go and get new shoes.

so it does seem that my life is all about inertia. i like to do what i’m doing and kind of stay like that until something jars me from that.

some call my behavior laziness…i prefer to think of it as a delicate balance of priorities.

childlike innocence

remember the candy cigarettes that were really pieces of gum rolled up like cigarettes? they were then wrapped with paper and inside the paper was a little bit of flour or sugar or something so that when you blew out of the “cigarette” you would blow out a little puff of smoke? as a kid i used to think that that was so cool because i could then pretend to smoke, but not really. that inspired me to do all sorts of things like try to add more flour to my cigarette so i could smoke more…or i tried to even make my own cigarettes with other things. but i do remember thinking that that candy was cool, even if the gum wasn’t all that great. yeah, cool. cool to pretend that you are smoking so that you can pretend to develop emphysema, lung cancer, heart disease, yellow teeth, or premature aging. yeah… so… cool…

but after all of these years, i guess it must be the glamorization of smoking because i opened up my first pack of orbit gum (which i really like, by the way) and while opening the package i thought to myself, “wow, cool. it’s like a pack of cigarettes.”

and then i was like, “oh wait…i don’t smoke. i don’t like smoking.”

and then i was like, “oh, well…maybe that isn’t so cool after all.”

and then it reminded me of those candy cigarettes.

start of a hard day

some days you wake up and you just know it’s going to be a hard day. today is one of those days for me. i feel like i haven’t had a moment’s rest yet, it’s been a non-stop flurry of one crisis or another. i’m thinking that i’m probably going to take off a little early and try to get some work done at home today. my head hurts and my body aches. i think part of it is from the back to back volleyball playing i did. it’s been a while since i’ve done that.

i got a new volleyball to replace the volleyball that i lost at citybeach. this time i put my email address on it so that it will be easier to reach me. hopefully this ball will stay with me.

on the ball i wrote “please don’t steal me, ok?”

yup, that’s right, i have a wussy ball.

epinions

from time to time i will log on to epinions to look up reviews on various projects. i used to get really gung ho about this site and i used to add as many reviews about as many things as i could.

well, i’m back at it again and i’ve written two reviews. one on the canon 50mm f/1.8 lens and another on the bogen grip action ballhead.

oddly enough, my most popular review is not about electronics or photography at all. instead it is about biore nose strips. go figure.

must have been busy

i must have been busy to have not blogged in such a long time. i haven’t really been doing too much except being bombarded at work and then trying to squeeze some time for a little rest and relaxation. i haven’t even been playing the xbox!

so what have i been up to? well, i finally got around to processing the pictures from the food shoot the other day. it’s been a while and there were a lot of photos to handle. but it’s done wth and i’m glad that i’m done. quite the time sink.

part of the reason why i haven’t been blogging is probably because my laptop’s been out of comission for a bit. i’ve been trying to get it back up to speed. i decided to reformat the laptop for a variety of reasons and i’ve been slowly installing the applications back on the laptop. i had forgotten how much work it was to get it to this point. the other thing is that i’ve been trying to go down a freeware/open source route for all of the applications that i use. it’s been a challenge to find some good apps, but i’ve found a few gems too.

oh, and i hate spyware/adware. hate it, hate it, hate it. i hate developers who employ ad ware or spyware to release stuff as freeware too. it isn’t free if you have to pay with spyware!

it’s been cold lately…

it’s been really cold lately. the past few nights have been very cold in the apartment and i’m beginning to wonder if it is time to break out the portable heater. usually the apartment is kept warm with the people below us who turn on their heaters, but i think that they’ve stopped turning the heat on so we’re left to fend for ourselves. phooey.

forgetting to shave

i have this rather nasty habit to forget to shave from time to time. the problem is that i usually remember that i forgot to shave about 10 minutes into my commute to work. this is the most inconvenient time for me to have remembered that i forgot to shave because it is just far enough away from the apartment for me to want to go back just to shave.

but, one night’s stubble is also just enough to drive me crazy for the rest of the day. so on days that i forget to shave AND i decide not to go back home to shave, i’m left with rubbing my face all day long with the irritating stubble. this is a rather troubling dilemma.

oh…and i am completely incapable of using a razor. i don’t know why, but regardless of how much shaving cream i may use, i will always end up cutting my face if i use a razor.

oh well…it’s a good thing that i didn’t forget to shave today!

the end of an era, part 2

as part of the last day of dee’s tenure at the third street grind, she was throwing a huge lunch party for all. this party consisted of free pizza, beer, quiche, chocolate cake, and truffles! it was a huge feast of goodies and i tried not to eat too much, but after a few slices of beer, cake, and truffles, i feel quite full now.

such decadence so early in the week. i’m not sure how i’m going to go on.

that, with the brandy in the morning is going to make for a rather sluggish day today.

holiday weekend

it was a pleasant holiday weekend with plenty of rest and relaxation. it was just what i needed and though there weren’t too many things that i did over this holiday weekend, i found that it was rather pleasant.

i wanted to go biking, but it rained and made for bad conditions.

i wanted to go get a haircut, but i got a little lazy.

i wanted to make a grand dinner, but had too many leftovers.

i wanted to try out lots of new xbox games…and i did.

yeah, i got my xbox back and now i’m going through a marathon of xbox gaming to see if there are any new games that are worth playing. i think that i play a game for about 15 minutes and then i will decide if it is worth the effort or not. so far, the game that has taken most of my time so far is NBA live 2005. man…that game is just crazy.

happy thanksgiving!

happy thanksgiving to everyone. i hope that you have a very belly stuffing day!

last night i went out with greg, jen, paul, leeya, and charlowe to have dinner at TGI’s sushi. mmmm. i love that place. we had 9 rolls there and it was great. it’s been a long time since i’ve eaten at TGI’s and they are still one of my favorite sushi places around.

after sushi, we went and played no limit hold ’em at greg’s place. greg ended up cleaning house…i was on a good roll too…oh well, all in all, a good way to start off the holiday.
