i heard about the compusa deal with the seagate 200GB hard drive for $100. i wasn’t sure if i should get in on it or not, but i have been having some hard drive concerns lately, so i decided to drop by the local compusa and pick up a drive. it turns out that i ended up with the last hard drive at the emeryville store. phew! so last night after getting out of poker pretty early, i decided to do the hard drive install. the case that comes with the dell is pretty nice, but the cables provided do not really give you much flexibility in terms of where you can put what. i actually had to shuffle around some things in the case so that my hard drive would fit.
my computer is actually a little bit louder now because of the new spinning hard drive. initially, i was going to retire one of my smaller hard drives, but i decided to leave everything in there. my computer is now happily running off of three hard drives, 120GB, 75GB, and the new 200GB, give me just under half a terabyte of hard drive space. now, the question is, how can i fill it all up? now that i’ve doubled my capacity, i think that i may start looking into downloading old tv episodes of some of my favorite shows.
ahhh, the possibilities are endless.
don’t get me wrong, it is more quiet than the drive in my replay (an ibm drive), but i still do hear a difference.
but still, i’m quite happy with it.
your computer’s a little bit louder? the seagate barracuda’s supposed to the absolute quietest hard drive on the market…
my seagate actually annoys me. sometimes i want to know if the computer’s reading from the disk. with other drives, i can just listen for the little clicks, but with the seagate, i don’t hear anything.
I have a fully functional hard disk, with information on it, in computer A.
Will I be able to read these information if I physically took out the hard disk and connected it to another computer B?
Do I need to format this hard disk using computer B(causing information on this disk to be erased)?
Thanks for answering this question, I have been pondering over it for some time but have not tried it out yet. 🙂
bob, yes, you should be able to read the information on it if you put it in another computer. you won’t need to format it, it’s better if you don’t because you will lose information if you do. be careful playing with the insides of your computers though, you wouldn’t want to break anything!
