album update

after the latest changes to the online photo album, i’ve been really happy with the results. i love, love, love the way that the photos zoom up and down. i love how the gallery looks. it’s the first time where i feel like the UI for the gallery is acceptable.

being a lazy developer and having no real incentive to develop cross-browser webapps for personal use, i never bothered to check what the gallery looks like in IE. i did today and the horror! i fixed up the CSS so that what the gallery looks like in IE is closer to the intended affect.

one of the places where i’ve been a little lazy is the admin console. sorting the image order in the albums were excrutiatingly painful, at best. i’ve added drag and drop sorting, and it helps a little and is tons better. it can get better, but i think it’s good enough for now.

the only thing now is that i need to start taking more pictures!

i’m just window browsing

i have always thought that i would be able to have a 100″ tv screen. sure, it’s true that the room that my tv is in isn’t very deep and a 12′ throw might be a little short to project out to a 100″ screen, but…maybe it’s still possible.

it turns out that after some research, it is indeed quite possible. it would be a pretty interesting to see how that would eventually work itself out, but there are many projectors out in the market that are quite capable of doing it.

now, the next question is…would i get motion sickness from a screen that big and that close to me? that is a good question. i guess i’ll need to go sit up close to a tv and see if that happens or not!

shaghai kiss

i thought that shanghai kiss was recommended to me, but the person who i thought recommended the movie to me said that he didn’t have any recollection of recommending the movie to me, but did see it and did like it. anyway, i saw the movie over the weekend.

i’m not crazy about the star, ken leung. there’s just something about him that i don’t like. maybe it’s just because he is ugly and i can’t imagine him picking up all the girls that he does throughout the movie.

anyway, hayden panettiere (of heroes fame, but really should get props for bring it on: all or nothing and remember the titans), was great in the movie. her dvd interview wasn’t quite as polished as i had hoped it would be, but the girl can act.

if you haven’t seen it, go check it out.

the laptop dilemma

my trusty laptop has been with me through thick and thin for i’m guessing about the last 4 years. it feels like it’s been forever, but it really struggles running current apps. it used to be that having 768MB of ram was a big deal, but now i don’t think you can even purchase a laptop with that little ram.

*sigh*

i also can’t seem to stay true to my rule of not spending more than $1000 on a laptop. i don’t know where to bend. should the laptop be slower? should it have a less fantastic screen? should it have a smaller, slower hard drive? what to do? what to do?

these are tough decisions, but as i look at what the cost of my laptop will be, i think that i might just have to wait a while and save up. it’s a struggle, though, because i look enviously at christi’s new beautiful laptop.

the announcement of the new super thin apple laptop came just a little while ago and though it has definitely stirred a lot of talk, there are just too many things wrong with the laptop to really justify even considering it seriously. it’s pretty, though.

bring it on: in it to win it

oh man, this franchise just seems to have a way of alternating good and bad movies. i just fast forwarded through it because i couldn’t bear to watch the movie in realtime. there’s just some awfully bad dialogue in the movie that even i can’t forgive.

i really wanted to like the movie, but i really can’t get myself to do it. too corny, too cheesy, and just too bad.

such a shame, too, i really liked the first and third movies.

in it to win it

that’s right folks, there’s a FOURTH installation in the franchise of bring it on. the second movie was awful. the third movie was pretty good, but a fourth movie? really? how many ways can you have a cheerleading movie go?

still, after i was told that there’s a fourth movie, i netflixed it immediately. it comes tomorrow. and believe me, i’m nervously looking forward to it. i hope it isn’t a dud.

i know, my inner teeny bopper self will never die.

mcdonald’s mcskillet burrito

i was starving this morning so i stopped by mcdonald’s and got a mcskillet burrito. it was actually pretty tasty, but i would imagine that it also is equally unhealthy. sure, i can try to justify that my meal was healthier because i got orange juice, but come on now, let’s not kid ourselves.

i’ve been on a real streak of bad food lately. taco bell, l&l, mcdonald’s…man, what’s next?

it’s thursday already which means that we’ve officially entered my favorite part of the week. tonight will be the start of vball league so that’ll be fun. i’m just starting to stop being sore from sunday’s first vball outing since the winter break.

since the writer’s guild is still on strike, i’ve been really reaching to watch some good tv. i just finished watching both seasons of dead like me. it was pretty entertaining the first season, the second season started to feel a little down for me. the whole story line with george’s sister was really becoming quite the bummer.

anyhow, i’m done with all of that tv and now it’s time to find something else to watch. i thought that i saw all of the buffy episodes, but i was reading about one episode “hush” that i had never seen. it was the mostly silent episode where the characters lose their voices. it sort of makes me wonder if there are other episodes that i haven’t seen.

little home improvement

it’s coming to that point where we are working on the little things on the home to make life better. after replacing our chandelier, i decided that we really need a dimmer switch to operate the new track lighting.

after checking out home depot’s dimmer switch selection, i must say that i’m pretty disappointed with the design of dimmer switches. a lot of the designs require two different methods to operate the switch. there’s a method to turn it on and off, another for dimming operations. some of the dimming switches were really awkward to operate. i just wanted a simple dimmer to turn on and off the lights. is that too much to ask for?

i finally found one and installed it last night. this time, i turned off the power to the switch before changing it. i didn’t want to get shocked again. =P

the storm

there has been a big deal about the storm that’s hitting the bay area this weekend. a storm watch has been started. flooding, high winds, and tons of rain is what they say is coming. the storm doesn’t seem like it is THAT bad, but it certainly was stormy here in san jose.

i was talking to geoff and he was telling me that there were high winds in the order of 70 mph where he lived high atop the hill. crazy. he also told me that there were downed power lines nearby.

there’s been expanded coverage on the storm watch. tv stations have started news coverage an hour earlier at 5AM instead of 6AM. it’s as if people have never seen rain before.

well, i say this because the area that we live in has had a good storm, but not hurricane like conditions. some garbage cans did fall over, some branches did fall, and PG&E did report something close to half a million customers without power, so it is a big deal. i just happen to live in an area which, thankfully, isn’t getting the worst of it.

the office had a leak in the roof, but luckily it was dripping right in the middle of a hallway and not in someone’s cube.

taco bell, revisited

i went to taco bell for lunch.

i ordered the meximelt, the 1/2lb. beef and potato burrito, and the spicy chicken burrito. i ate them in that order, too. it was DE-LI-CI-OUS! the meximelt was pretty good, it tasted like a cheesy taco sans lettuce. definitely not a meal by itself and probably too rich to eat 3 or 4 of those by themselves, but still very tasty. the problem with them is that they are pricy for what they are. at over $1, i don’t know if it’s a good value…but i may have to get a few more to really decide that for sure.

the beef and potato burrito was good, but it was the spicy chicken burrito that really made my meal complete. absolutely delicious, i may get two of those next time.

at under $5 for my meal, taco bell today did not disappoint.

now, the question is, has this started a taco bell kick for me? i hope not, but man, it sure was tasty.
