lens lust

hahaha. adam said, “I felt quite inadequate with my 70-200 with a 1.4x tele-extender.”

hahaha. no, really. please. stop it, you’re killing me. hahahaha.

oh dear. i think you just up it to a whole new level when you go with CRAZY LENSES like the 600mm lens, a 300/2.8, and the 100-400. sure, sure. see, it’s not THAT crazy to spend $1300 on a little lens…no, not crazy at all. never mind that the 600mm lens is on the order of $7200. never mind that the 300/2.8 is considered cheap at $3900. and the 100-400 is dirt cheap at $1400. i mean, yeah, who wouldn’t feel a little inadequate with the 70-200? buck up, adam, i’m sure that you’ll start to feel more secure about yourself in the coming days. =P

and here i was fretting over a lens that’s a few hundred dollars!

i’ve decided that my budget for lenses is obvious in the wrong order of magnitude. add another zero and then we’re talking a REAL budget for lenses.

sheesh!

average joe: hawaii

larissa, the new girl of average joe 2, is not nearly as open-minded as her predecessor, melana. the show actually makes her look like quite a bitch at the beginning, but she’s beginning to open up at the end of the first episode. it definitely makes you wonder if she can get over her shallow tendecies and just get to know the guys for who they are. i’m not really digging this show as much as the last one, i’m not sure why. maybe it’s because i feel that larissa is just overly shallow and she isn’t really willing to give the guys a real chance. we’ll see, though.

it does however provide a rather interesting commentary about how much importance we place on looks when it comes to people we date. i guess that may just be a fact of life for those who are ridiculously attractive.

it does beg the question though whether or not there is some kind of cosmic balance to life. if someone is really THAT attractive, does it mean that they are lacking in something else THAT much? hmmmm.

new volleyball league

last night was the first day of my new league. it’s the West Side JACL volleyball league on sundays. it’s actually quite a bit of fun. i was a little intimidated when i found out that i was playing in the A pool, but i think that i can totally keep up with these guys. my new teammates are pretty cool and friendly so that makes it all the better.

what was really surprising is that this league is predominantly asian. i would say that there is maybe a small handful of non-asian people playing. i wonder why. it was also funny because on my team, i am one of the taller guys on the team. how often does that happen? heh.

i’m definitely looking forward to sunday nights. i think i may have hurt my knee a little bit last night, but i’m hoping the soreness will go away soon.

adam and joan

it finally happened. through extraordinary circumstances, adam had to go through a soul searching mission to find out about his mother, joan, and himself and finally it finally happened. joan and adam kissed. you could almost see that it was going to happen after adam started to call joan “jane” again.

it was a love affair that was always in the making and i’m glad that through it all, it finally happened. it definitely begs the question, what’s next?

i guess we’ll see, but this episode reaffirms my love for the show, joan of arcadia.

desserts

i have a sweet tooth. it probably gets me into more trouble than not, but there’s just something about the sweets that i cannot resist. i try to take it all in moderation, but it’s hard sometimes because dessert is so good!

as much as i love the sweets, i probably don’t have cake as much as i would like. it’s a pity because, well…cake is good!

photo idea

before the new year’s party kicked off, john suggested that we try and set up a shot with the bottle of hpnotiq. this drink is wickedly blue and we both thought it would be cool to backlight it and have the blue really come out. we weren’t able to get the shot that we really wanted, but i didn’t want to spend too much time trying to get the effect we wanted, but this is the best shot of the bunch.

it definitely renewed my interest in studio photography. i don’t think that this is something that i would pursue because part of the problem is that i just don’t have the patience to set up the shot and figure out how to make it work. trying to overly control the environment is so hard and so much work! i prefer to work with what i’ve got and make the best of it…but still, it was fun to do.

west wing

i finally caught up with all of the episodes of the west wing that i’ve missed this season. man, i really like the show. i’m sort of sad that i only just started to watch this show and i’m curious about the previous seasons. it looks very good. sort of draws me in.

i think one of the reasons why i like the show so much is because it really puts some personalities behind the face of a government and it shows some of the struggles that people go through to make the government run the way that it may run.

just a nice human perspective on an otherwise unknown process.

story of life

preface: This is a fictionary tale about a fictional man and his fictional life. Any attempt to draw parallels of this tale to real life are not only useless, but without merit. I am not talking about you, me, or anybody else that we may know. It is simply a story about life. It is neither happy nor sad, just a tale of what life can be. Enjoy it if you wish or skip over it. I don’t mind either way.

oneword

oneword is a very cool idea. i like it quite a bit and i’m very tempted to try something like it.

it’s an interesting writing exercise that’s easy to do, but it also helps you just write. i liken it to speed blogging. ooooh, there’s another idea. i know that there are blogathons and all, but what about speed blogging? where you accumulate donations based on the amount that you blog. hmmmm.

beef problem solved!

so it turns out that whole foods market sells all natural beef. this means that the cows are never fed animal by-products, they never sell downed cows, and they are free from growth hormones and antibiotics. so it would appear that buying beef from whole foods is a relatively safe way to eat beef.

mmmm.

i wonder how much more expensive it is.
