new design

the old design i had made was made in a time of my life when i was starting to follow the road of despair. i believe that i had recently broken up with a girl and i started to really question if i was ever going to find true love again.

that’s the tricky thing about true love, it seems to be ever-so evasive, quick to scurry away from you. the thing is that often times other things are mistaken for true love and when the reality of the situation comes crashing down on you, you’re just left with a sense of hopelessness.

and that’s where i was a while ago. i looked around and i saw all this useless beauty because i was surrounded by beauty but it seemed like there was no use for it, for if you could not share in the world’s simplest of pleasures with the one you love, why do you even bother?

and so i’ve been trying to get myself to come up with a new design for the blog, but as luck would have it new designs are hard to come by…especially for non-artistic people like me. so instead, i’ve give the blog a little facelift with a minimalist design.

it feels good though, to not have to see the old design and be reminded of a time in my life where i had begun to lose hope. we should never lose hope.

fruits and vegetables

interesting that this article reports findings from a harvard study that says that eating fruits and vegetables won’t really reduce your risk of cancer.

see! all these years of avoiding fruits and vegetables never really hurt me!

new headset

the other day i went and finally got a headset for my new cell phone. i guess i’ve been without handsfree for a while now so having this has significantly changed my whole cell phone experience. it’s kind of nice. i wasn’t sure which one to get so as i was checking out various headsets, i finally decided to ask one of the salespeople what they liked.

they recommended the jabra set saying that it was definitely the most comfortable one he has ever used. he told me that it doesn’t tire out the ear canal like most other headsets and that the earpiece itself was also very comfortable because of the gel pad. he convinced me enough to get it and i’m pretty happy with the results. it’s a pretty good set and i haven’t had any problems with it yet. if you are in the market for one, go check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

new laptop

i ordered a new laptop last night. it’s been a purchase that’s been on my mind for a while and like most large purchases i followed my rule to see if it was really something that i was sure i wanted to get. my rule is that after my first impulse to buy, i wait at least a week to see if it is something that i really want to get. if after that week i still want to get it then i’ll start looking for the best deal.

after much searching, i finally found myself getting a dell. sure, i could have bought an HP and gotten a discount from a friend who works there, but ultimately i think what turned me off to HPs is that they just look oddly friendly…and that bothers me. i don’t know what it is about that, but it’s odd. i’ve had a bad experience with toshibas so they were out. sonys are too expensive. the other brand i was seriously considering was fujitsu. they have a great feature set, but i haven’t heard enough about them to feel comfortable spending that much money and then getting a dud.

so dell it was. hopefully the system that i got will be nice and last me a long time. i did splurge a little and get some nice features that i hope i don’t regret. i also hope the laptop isn’t too heavy, but i fear that it is very, very heavy. i also fear that it won’t fit in my current laptop case, but we’ll see.

i also decided to get a centrino laptop with the pentium m processor. this also gives me some amount of concern because the clock speed is so much lower than the other mobile cpus…but from what i’ve read the change in architecture gives it a siginificant performance boost while operating at a slower clock speed. we’ll see, i guess. i hope battery life is good too, but i’m not really holding out for much since i got the big screen.

but yeah, i’m pretty excited and it should come in a few weeks, so when it comes i think that i’ll be carrying that with me everywhere.

the game of rimball

i was introduced to the deadly game of rimball over the weekend. the game whose inception may offend some was surprisingly more fun than i had originally anticipated. it’s been a while since i played basketball so i wasn’t sure if i really could shoot anything at all anymore.

put simply, this game is a variant of basketball. yes…a variant. the rules are relatively simple. it’s a winner’s ball game of basketball where you get a point if you make a basket. you also get a point if you hit the rim. you get two points if you hit the back of the rim. if you hit the rim several times, you get a point for every time you hit the rim. first to 100 wins.

if you tie, then you go to sudden death. the first person to make a multi-point shot wins.

only a girl can bastardize basketball like this.

still, surprisingly fun.
