texas hold ’em

after being inspired from watching celebrity poker showdown i called in the troops last night to play some texas hold ’em. and man, let me just say that last night’s texas hold ’em was a lot more fun for me. my betting strategy has changed quite a bit and it was definitely a lot more exciting this time around. big bets all the way around.

there was some COMPLETELY IRRESPONSIBLE BETTING going on last night, some of which resulted in good things and some resulted in very bad things.

what amazed me was that jimmy had amazingly incredible luck which resulted in him being the ultimate winner of all the money in the pot.

happy donuts

on the way to work today i passed by the opening on a new donut store. it used to be a winchells but they closed down and happy donuts moved in. i didn’t think anything of it at first, but then i saw the sign.

it read, “GRAND OPENING! FREE COFFEE with any purchase”.

i, of course, was suckered in. i bought a few donuts and they offered me a choice between free coffee or free freshly squeezed orange juice. i opted for the free OJ and went on my way. orange juice is definitely not the drink to have after eating almost too-sweet donuts. no, the juice tasted sour and unpleasant. next time i must remember the coffee instead.

the donuts were actually pretty good. better than winchells, i’d say. i would say that they are a strong #2 only next to the delightfully light krispy kreme donuts. they were a little expensive though, 75 cents for a donut. i’m not sure if i’ll go again.

it’s funny because i expect donuts to be 60 cents or less and if it is any more (15 WHOLE CENTS!) then i get turned off. sheesh, what’s 15 cents?

oh no…look what i found!

that’s right…there is a new devil in town…and they are called ergotron. they make amazing little arms that you can buy and add to your home. monitor arms, that is. that’s right, they make the monitor arms that let you have a 2 LCD set up…or for those more ambitious, a 4 LCD setup. 4×1 or 2×2 configurations…mmmmm. can you just imagine? 4 20.1″ LCD monitors staring at you? it’s like a wall of monitors just waiting to be loved.

one of these days…

oh yes. one of these days you will be mine. as soon as i get the 3 other identical LCDs i’ll need to complete the display. now that one LCD feels so…lonely. who would have thought that you could be insane enough to mount 4 of those bad boys next to each other? mmmm.

chill

it’s been a chill day today. i got more testing done for my project at work, so it looks like it’s coming along just fine. i also took a refresher on all this techie stuff that even bores me, so i won’t talk about it.

it’s been a pretty chill kind of a day…it’s been like that for the last couple of days. i guess i should think about my christmas shopping. i haven’t really done any of it yet. i’m not sure how many christmas gifts i need to buy this year, though, so it may not end up being that big of a deal.

unsportsmanlike conduct?

i’m not sure why exactly joe horn is getting so much publicity for what his little cell phone victory. i guess me talking about it only makes the situation worse, but a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct is good enough. i mean, do we really have to worry about victory dances? is it really that big of a deal? i thought it was kind of tacky, but i mean, come on, surely there were more interesting things going on in the world of sports this weekend, right? …right?

average joe finale

i think that i’ve watched most of the average job series. i have to admit that i think that the producers of average joe really lucked out with melana. i say this because she’s a very attractive woman who just happened to be a very good person inside as well. she gave the guys a real chance even though they may not have been the normal lot of guys that she usually chooses from.

in the finale, we see melana choose jason, the part-time water and student who she has on numerous times described as “pretty”. instead of choosing adam, the average joe (who actually isn’t so average, as a 27 year old millionaire), who is very romantic, sweet, and caring. what i think it finally boiled down to was that melana was not physically attracted to adam. physical attraction won.

her choice sort of reaffirms my faith in women that they aren’t all gold diggers. she had the choice between a starving student and a successful millionaire. but this also reaffirms the old adage that “nice guys finish last.”

it wouldn’t have mattered which way she choose, i don’t think that it could have come out well for her. if she choose adam, i would have said that she’s a gold digger who never really dug adam until she saw his money….so she was put into an impossible situation. i think she made the right choice though, she picked the person who she was most attracted to. would you ever want to be in a relationship where you weren’t really attracted to the person?

i really wanted adam to be picked though. the guy is a stud and he’s very cool, modest, and a good person at heart.

i can’t wait to see the new average joe…in the clip of the next season we see a girl who seems really bitchy!

see’s candy

i have so much see’s candy at home. my sister gave me a bunch of see’s candy chocolate bars. my mom gave me 4 pounds worth of chocolate: a 2 pound box of the nuts and chewy and a 2 pound box of the milk chocolate candies. i have so much chocolate in the apartment right now, i don’t know what to do with it.

how is it that see’s candy became THE candy of choice to give? how come gummy bears didn’t win that market? or kit kat? or crunch bars? what makes see’s candy more common than other chocolates like godiva? is it just the moderate price point? hmmmm…

why are mondays the hardest to take?

in an on-going effort to learn how to use the canon s400, i decided to bring it up with me to the slopes over the weekend. the weather was pretty good over the weekend and i must admit that we were pretty lucky. it was supposed to snow and be quite windy, but instead we saw a little bit of fog and just the tiniest little bits of snow.

it took me a long time to get my feet under me. i don’t know why it was so hard, but man, it’s been a while since i’ve boarded. i sort of wonder if snowboarding is really for me anymore. it was fun and all, but it was more of the same. i don’t know if i’m into it anymore. odd. maybe it was all the snowboarding i did during my early days of unemployment that has just tired me out.

oh well, hopefully these monday blues will be over.

on a tangent, today’s been a particularly productive day at work. i finally was able to work out some big issues that i’ve been ignoring for a while because i wasn’t sure how to deal with it. looks like it’s not so bad anymore.

she’s here! she’s here!

it was a completely unexpected surprise. though, i suppose that one cannot have an expected surprise…in fact, one could say that the phrase unexpected surprise is redundant. but then one would realize that we are straying from the point.

and the point is that at 3:06pm my bundle of joy came into my life. she was just too eager to come out and play with her daddy and despite all of the indications that she wasn’t due until next week, she came today.

when i first laid eyes on her, tears of joy were welling up in my eyes. we don’t have a name for her yet, but soon enough i’m sure that something will come. she is, of course, my new 20″ LCD!

dark offices

one of the weird things about my office is that late at night, the office, for whatever bizarre reason opts to turn off all the lights in the hallways. so whenever i leave work, it’s really, really dark. in fact, the stairs are quite treacherous territory. as i was walking down the stairs carrying a big box, i had to tread extra carefully to make sure that i didn’t trip over myself.
