first foray into ice cream making

so the winner of the ice cream flavor contest? mint chocolate chip. i have to say that there’s something quite wrong with mint chocolate chip if it lacks the green dye. next time i make it, i’ll have to remember to add some green food coloring. so much for wanting to get rid of the artificial.

my first batch came out ok. a little less firm than i was hoping, but it was ok. i think that i may have to adjust the proportions of cream and milk. i’m thinking that the more cream i use, the thicker the ice cream…but i’m still left to wonder…how do the professionals get their ice cream so hard? hmmmmmm.

but all in all, it isn’t bad, i’m impressed. i may have to get some powdered milk as well to see if that is a good thickening agent. there’s still something about the ice cream that is missing in texture. but not bad for my first try. i can’t wait to try again.

dsl, baby!

i just got my home install kit from SBC Yahoo! DSL. the yahoo dsl is supposed to be activated on the 15th, so if all goes well, i’ll be cruising down the information highway at super speeds next week. i guess i’ll spend a part of tonight doing the install for the home install kit. it doesn’t look too bad….hopefully it’ll be pretty easy and everything will work out just fine. please, please, please let it work fine. i guess this means that i need to clean up my room to be able to access the phone jack in my room. ugh.

ok, that’s the goal for this evening. install the home kit and make ice cream. hmmmm…what ice cream shall i make? i still am unsure.

ice cream making joy

so my ice cream maker came in the mail today. it wasn’t exactly what i expected, but maybe i was expecting too much. i thought that the ice cream maker would also refrigerate the contents of the mixer, but such is not the case. you still have to pre-refrigerate the main canister. so basically, all this does is replace the hand crank with an electric motor. still, not bad, though.

i have the waffle maker of this brand and it is VERY cool. it has a timer and buzzer to tell you when the waffle is ready. i’m hoping that the results from this ice cream maker will be just as good.

i put the main canister in the freezer and tomorrow i’m going to go and buy the ingredients for my first batch of ice cream. i wonder what i shall make. hmmmm. i don’t think that i’ll play it safe and start with vanilla. it’ll have to be something a little more spicy.

cookies and cream?

chocolate?

mint chip?

it’s too hard to decide!
